    Recommendation Letter Request Form
    2024 - 2025 School Year

  • It will be my pleasure to prepare a recommendation letter (LoR) on your behalf.  I take great care and pride in preparing such letters, and they have always been part of my students' successful applications to clubs and honorary societies, internships, colleges and jobs. Being an evaluation, I am being asked to point to both your strengths and weaknesses. I will accompany any mention of a weakness with my observations of your efforts to overcome them. Indeed, to help me prepare as strong a letter as possible for you, please answer the following matters briefly and submit the form. You will be contacted in a timely manner to complete the process. If your target school or program needs to reach me, or send me materials, including the Common App application platform or other private platform, please ask them to use this email address: art14@artacademynj.com. Your third party can also reach me via text, but NOT voicemail at 732-789-4309.

Your third-party may need the following information:

    Name: Ana E. Soto-Canino

    Title: Director/Chief Instructor/Chief Safety Officer

Name of Organization: Academy of Art of Highland Park

Address: 727 Raritan Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904 USA

    Phone Number: 732-789-4309

    Email: art14@artacademynj.com

    IMPORTANT:

    • If you are under 18, your legal guardian must electronically co-sign this request at the end of this form.
    • In requesting an LoR from me, which I will be happy to generate, you acknowledge that you will remain fully responsible for flagging me, in writing via text, about any changes that I should know of, and of my need to see approaching deadlines.
    • Although there are many valid exceptions, it is generally true that potential employers and other 3rd parties may not like to see letters of recommendations about you that were written by people who worked with you more than three years ago. The reasonable logic is this: If you have been progressing successfully through school, community engagements, and careers, you should be able to secure LoRs from more recent employers and others who know you as you are now, not as you were in the past. Again, there are many valid exceptions. If in doubt, talk with me first, please. I am only a text away.

    Thank You,

    Ana Eloisa Soto-Canino

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF USING “THE COMMON APP” ONLINE SERVICE FOR COLLEGES IN THE USA.

If you request that I send your LoR to two or more colleges using the universal "Common App" online service, please know that said service does NOT allow me to see your list of schools on my end.

Therefore, I cannot be held responsible for sending your LoR to the appropriate college(s) online. Only you can ensure this matter when you set up your Common App account on your end, list your select schools, and then me as recommender.

Please follow-up after I inform you that I’ve submitted the LoR, and verify that your select schools were targeted.

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF USING A THIRD PARTY FILL-IN FORM OTHER THAN THE COMMON APP

Please note that if my LoR is to simply be filled-in, using the pre-set fields of an electronic form sent to me by the organization requesting your recommendation, then I will not be able to send your LoR on our letterhead. If I am given the choice of format, I tend to choose letterhead for more impact.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF USING SNAIL MAIL FOR COLLEGES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE USA.

Please note that hard-copy or emailed recommendation letters appear on our letterhead. Our full-color letterhead features a sidebar, which can carry a photo of one of your best works, with full attribution, alongside other works of excellence by other students of the AAHP. This is visually very impressive.

If I am to use our letterhead in your case, then please remind me of several works you have made with us, so that I can find one of them in our cloud-based, massive photo archives of several hundred thousand photos. As our archived photos are rarely labeled for lack of staff (too costly), I will need to dig all by little itty-bitty-self. I can locate the image within seconds, however, if I have proper specs. The specs I need from you are (1) an accurate year for the artwork in question (2) an accurate, or at least approximate month, (3) notes on the themes of your works, and a (5) title you may wish to give it, if any. Hot Tip: Look at your original work’s signature for a full date and then we’ll be gold.

If you do not use this option, the sidebar will still feature the work of several other AAHP students; we do this to indicate the caliber of student production at the AAHP. Thank You.
